Botanical Glow Hot Foil Card Tutorial | Beginner Hot Foil Tips + Easy 3-Color Leaf Technique
Welcome back for another Fri-YAY! card tutorial!
If you’ve been wanting to learn how to use the new Stampin’ Up! Hot Foil System, today’s project is a wonderful place to begin. We’re combining beautiful metallic foiling with layered stamping to create a card that’s elegant, realistic, and surprisingly easy to make.
For today’s project I featured the Botanical Glow Hot Foil Bundle, which pairs a gorgeous leafy hot foil die with a coordinating stamp to create rich, artistic backgrounds full of texture and shine.
We started by foiling the leafy design onto Basic White cardstock using Gold Hot Foil and the new Hot Foil System with the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine. The metallic finish instantly adds a luxurious look to your handmade cards.
Next came my favorite part!
Using the Stampin’ Positioner, I stamped directly over the foiled image, creating beautiful details. To give the leaves a natural appearance with lots of dimension, I inked the stamp with Granny Apple Green, & added Old Olive and Peaceful Pine using sponge daubers. This simple technique creates an incredible three-color effect with very little effort and gives the foliage beautiful depth and realism.
After trimming the panel to size, I layered coordinating cardstock behind it for extra dimension. The greeting, stamped in Secret Sea ink using a sentiment from the Scalloped Blooms Stamp Set, was finished with a fun little twist by wrapping one end around the layered panel before adhering it to the card. It’s an easy detail that adds extra interest and polish.
To finish the design, I added a subtle white butterfly embellishments that complements the gold foiling without taking attention away from the beautiful botanical focal point.
